Mr. Gompper is currently interim President of banking operations for the Carolina First markets in North and South Carolina. He is primarily responsible for the day to day execution of strategies and plans that support the bank’s vision to be the relationship bank of choice in its local markets. Mr. Gompper is also responsible for the bank’s retail business support, marketing, and wealth management units.

Mr. Gompper joined The South Financial Group in June 2005 and was most recently Executive Vice President, Director of Bank Strategy and Business Segment Performance. In this role he was responsible for bank strategy and support for commercial, retail, and private banking, including marketing and branch administration functions. Additionally Mr. Gompper managed Treasury and Merchant services, International, Brokerage, and Trust.

Mr. Gompper has held senior management positions with a variety banking companies including AmSouth, Wells Fargo and JP Morgan Chase. Mr. Gompper graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in financial management from Florida Southern while a player on their NCAA national championship baseball team. He has earned the permanent designation of Certified Cash Manager from the Association of Financial Professionals (AFP). He has served on the AFP committee to develop their Body of Knowledge examination and is a past board member of NCR’s National Financial Standards Committee.
